70 International Training Programmes (ITP) covering a
wide range of sectors and subject themes. Each programme has 20-30
participants. SIPU International is currently responsible for the
implementation of three ITP programmes; of which one is given
in both English and Spanish, aiming at different target regions.
- Local Democracy and Self Governance
(Africa) The intention of this programme is to
strengthen the participants’ capacity, through interactive
methodology, in activities related to the themes of local democracy
and self governance. More

- Democratic Institutions and Participatory Democracy
(Global) The objective of the course is to strengthen
representatives of the public administration and civil society in
order to improve the conditions for good governance in their home
countries. The specific purposes are to give the participants a
general understanding of democratic processes in Sweden and their
home countries to help them implement a development project of
their own; and to give them a mutual arena for network and

- Human Rights towards Gender Equality
(Global/MENA-region) The
Programme seeks to increase successful practising of gender
mainstreaming and, as a consequence, increase Gender equality and
implementation of women’s human rights is all participating
organizations. Strategy for change will strengthen the commitment
of organizations and institutions to invest in and
institutionalise gender-sensitive change. More information on the global

- Local
Environmental Management in Urban Areas(Africa/Europe)
The intention of the
programme is to strengthen the participants´ capacity in the
field of Local Environmental Management in Urban Areas. A main focus
will be to increase participants´ capacity to prioritize given
scarce resources. Eligible participants 2008 may come from the
following countries: Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Namibia,
South Africa, Zambia, and Mozambique. More information about the African
